Four Terriers Selected as Hockey East All-Stars
March 5, 2020 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Redshirt senior Sammy Davis, senior Abby Cook, and juniors Jesse Compher and Corinne Schroeder were selected as Hockey East All-Stars, the league announced on Thursday.
This is the second straight season that all four Terriers garnered a spot on one of the league's three all-star squads. Cook is now a three-time honoree, including a two-time First Team All-Star, while Compher, Davis and Schroeder were all chosen as all-stars for the second consecutive year. Davis and Cook were both named Hockey East First Team All-Stars while Compher and Schroeder were both second-team selections.
Cook joins Marie-Philip Poulin, Jenn Wakefield and Victoria Bach as one of four Terriers to be named a two-time Hockey East First Team All-Star. She had a career season in 2019-20, becoming the first defender in program history to score 10 goals. She also added 20 assists to become just the third Terrier defender to record 30 points in a single season. Cook concluded the regular season ranked second among league defenders in points and assists, and first among all conference blue liners in game-winning goals (5) and power-play goals, assists and points. Cook finished her remarkable career with 99 points thanks to 24 goals and 75 assists; all those marks are program records for a defender.
Davis, a second-team selection a year ago, earned first-team status after an incredible final season with the Terriers. She ended the regular season ranked second in the league in assists (24), third in the conference in points (41) and fifth in Hockey East with 17 goals, all of which were tops on the Terriers. BU was 11-1-2 when Davis scored a goal. Davis led the league with eight power-play goals and only took five penalties; no Hockey East skater took fewer penalties than Davis while also recording at least 40 points. Davis closed her impressive career with 142 points (66g, 76a), which ranks sixth all-time at BU. Her 66 goals are tied for fifth-most in program history.
Compher, a first-team honoree last year, skated in just 24 regular-season games but was spectacular for the Terriers, notching 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points. Her impact was extraordinary, as BU was 9-0-0 when she lit the lamp and the Terriers finished the regular season with an 18-3-3 record when Compher was in the lineup. She won nearly 59% of her faceoffs, fifth-best in the league, and her average of 1.17 points per game ranked fourth in the conference. Compher will skate for Team USA at the 2020 IIHF Women's World Championship in April as she vies for a second straight gold medal in that tournament.
Schroeder turned in the finest statistical season by a Terrier goaltender in program history. She shattered her own single-season record with a .943 save percentage and also posted a 1.54 goals-against average. Schroeder notched four shutouts, including two against Boston College, and was one of only two goaltenders in the country to have three shutouts with 30 or more saves. Schroeder's 1.50 goals-against average and .944 save percentage at the conclusion of the regular season were both fourth-best in the NCAA. She backstopped the fourth-best defense in the nation (1.56 GA/G), one that ended the regular season having allowed just one goal per game at even strength.
