Three Terriers Invited to Hockey Canada Development Camp
June 22, 2020 | Women's Ice Hockey
CALGARY, Alta. - Three members of the Boston University women's ice hockey team were invited to Hockey Canada's National Women's Development Team Summer Camp, which will be held virtually.
Goaltenders Corinne Schroeder and Kate Stuart were named to the roster, as was incoming freshman Andriana Calderone. In addition, Terrier assistant coach Tara Watchorn will reprise her role as an assistant for Canada's National Women's Under-18 Team. Watchorn helped guide Canada to a silver medal at the 2020 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship.
Schroeder, who was a New England Division I All-Star as well as a Hockey East Second Team All-Star, turned in the finest statistical season by a Terrier goaltender in program history during the 2019-20 campaign. She set new single-season program records when she ranked fourth in the NCAA with a .943 save percentage and was fifth among all NCAA goaltenders with a 1.54 goals-against average. Schroeder notched four shutouts, including two against Boston College, and was one of only two goaltenders in the country to have three shutouts with 30 or more saves.
Stuart was tremendous for the Terriers last season, posting an impressive 8-1-1 record with a .938 save percentage and a 1.58 goals-against average. She recorded her first collegiate shutout on Feb. 16 when she made 17 saves in a 2-0 win over New Hampshire. That capped an impressive 8-0-1 run over her final nine starts of the year in which she posted a .943 save percentage and a 1.31 GAA. Stuart and Schroeder backstopped the fourth-best defense in the nation (1.61 GA/G), one that ended the regular season having allowed just one goal per game at even strength.
Calderone will arrive at BU having most recently skated for John Abbott College in Quebec for two seasons. There, she was selected as the team's Rookie of the Year before earning team MVP honors the following season. Calderone, who was invited to Canada's U18 camp in 2018, won a silver medal with Team Quebec at the 2019 Canada Games. She also received a scholarship for academic and athletic excellence from the Montreal Canadiens in both 2018 and 2019.

As the virtual meetings progress through the summer, the athletes will cover topics that include at-home strength and conditioning plans, mental performance plans and check-ins, nutrition, dry-land skills, skating simulations, team-building activities, short-term international competition preparation and meetings with coaches.
The online sessions will take place up to twice weekly, with critical information being communicated to athletes to allow them to continue to evolve as high-performance athletes in this new environment, and will utilize the strengths and experience of Canada's National Women's Program leadership to help connect one-on-one, athlete-to-athlete.
