Terriers Fall in Overtime to No. 18 Northeastern, 1-0
November 19, 2021 | Men's Ice Hockey
BOSTON - Neither the Boston University men's ice hockey team nor No. 18 Northeastern were able to break through in regulation, but Aidan McDonough scored 55 seconds into overtime as the Terriers suffered a hard-fought 1-0 loss to the Huskies on Friday night at Agganis Arena.
BU (4-8-1, 3-5-1 HE) was dominant through a majority of the contest, but Northeastern (9-4-0, 5-3-0) goaltender Devon Levi stopped all 38 shots he saw. Sophomore Drew Commesso was sharp for the Terriers, as he made several spectacular stops as part of his 15-save performance

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU controlled the play in the first period, outshooting Northeastern, 14-3.
- Freshman Brian Carrabes had the first good chance of the game just 5:30 into the game when he was sprung free on a breakaway, but Levi stayed with Carrabes and made the save.
- The Huskies had a point-blank chance of their own late in the first period when Jack Hughes forced a turnover in the slot and was alone on Commesso, but the sophomore netminder gloved aside Hughes' bid to keep the game scoreless through the first 20 minutes.
- Commesso made a sensational left pad stop on Justin Hryckowian early in the second stanza, going post-to-post to deny the freshman forward of a sure goal.
- BU had two breakaway bids in the middle frame but were unable to capitalize on either opportunity.
- The shots evened out in the third period, with BU holding an 11-8 advantage.
- BU started the overtime session on the front foot, but McDonough forced an turnover in his own zone and finished the eventual 2-on-1 on his own for the winner.
- Sophomore Luke Tuch returned to the Terrier lineup after missing nine games due to injury and generated three of the Terriers' 38 shots on goal.
- Juniors Robert Mastrosimone and Wilmer Skoog, the Terriers' leading goal scorers, led BU with four shots on target apiece.
- Junior Alex Vlasic led all skaters with four blocked shots.
- This was the Terriers' first 1-0 loss since Feb. 27, 2016, at Notre Dame.
- BU was 0-for-2 on the power play while Northeastern failed to capitalize on its lone man advantage.
- BU and Northeastern will face off on Saturday night at Matthews Arena in a game that will be televised on NESN+.
- Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
