Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Terriers Fall at Maine, 5-1

ORONO, Maine – The Boston University women's ice hockey team fell at Maine by a score of 5-1 on Friday evening at Alfond Arena.

Senior Emma Wuthrich scored in the closing moments of the opening period to make it a 1-1 game but the home team scored three times in the second and added another early in the third to roll to the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Maine struck first midway through the opening period when Nicole Pateman scored off assists from Courtney Colarullo and Ali Beltz.
  • The Terriers got the first power play of the game late in the first and scored seconds after it ended to create a deadlock heading into the first intermission.
  • Just as the player advantage ended, graduate student Ellie Larson took a pass from sophomore Tamara Giaquinto and then spotted Wutchrich in the slot, where the senior redirected the puck off Maine goaltender Loryn Porter's glove and in with 12.9 seconds left in the first.
  • The second period belonged to the Black Bears as they scored 49 seconds in to regain lead and then never looked back.
  • Taylor Leech provided what would be the game-winner before Maine established a two-goal cushion on a goal by Bailey Oakes exactly halfway through regulation.
  • Colarullo pushed the lead to 4-1 on a tally with 4:09 left in the second.
  • The Terriers were unable to draw any Maine penalties after the first to help get back in the contest.
  • Maine put the finishing touches on its win on a tally by Ida Kuoppala.
GAME NOTES
  • Maine held a 26-23 advantage in shots as senior Kate Stuart turned in a 21-save effort for the Terriers.
  • Porter made 22 saves for the Black Bears.
