Gallagher Named Hockey East Defender of the Week

AMESBURY, Mass. - Freshman Ty Gallagher of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named Hockey East Defender of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Gallagher assisted on all three goals in the Terriers' 3-3 tie with Boston College on Friday night. The best assist of the night came when his stretch pass sprung Max Kaufman loose on a breakaway for the Terriers' second goal of the game. Gallagher finished the night as a plus-1 and also blocked a shot. He followed up that performance by scoring the game's first goal in the Terriers' exhibition contest against the U.S. Under-18 Team the next day.
This is the second time Gallagher has earned a weekly award from the league. He was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Oct. 25 after the first three-assist performance of his BU career in an 8-6 victory over Merrimack. Gallagher enters the semester break with nine points thanks to two goals and seven assists. He is also second among freshmen defenders in the league with 20 blocked shots.
BU will return to action on Friday, Dec. 31, when the Terriers travel to Brown.
