BURLINGTON, Vt. – Sophomore Alex Vlasic scored the game's lone goal and freshman Vinny Duplessis earned his first collegiate shutout as the No. 13 Boston University men's ice hockey team earned a 1-0 road win over Vermont on Friday evening at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

After two scoreless periods, Vlasic provided all the offense BU would end up needing when he teamed up with sophomore Jay O'Brien for a tally at 3:34 of the third.

Duplessis, who had 40 saves in his collegiate debut against Boston College on Saturday, continued to excel in goal and stopped all 18 shots he faced to earn the shutout.

BU improves to 7-2-0 with the victory while the Catamounts fall to 1-6-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

BU limited Vermont's chances all night long but was unable to get a goal of its own in the first 40 minutes.
The Catamounts had arguably the best opportunity of the opening period but Duplessis denied a backhand chance at the right crease to keep it a scoreless game.
The decisive play came in the fourth minute of the third period as freshman Thomas Jarman was in a puck battle in the neutral zone and it made its way back to Vlasic, who passed up the ice to O'Brien.
O'Brien squeezed past a defender and cut in through the right circle before finding a streaking Vlasic up the slot and the d-man tucked a backhander past UVM netminder Gabe Carriere at the goalmouth to complete the give-and-go.
The Catamounts had a late chance to tie the game up on a power play but Duplessis and the BU defense was up to the task.

GAME NOTES

For just the third time in the past 19 seasons (2008-09, 2014-15), the Terriers won seven of their first nine contests.
Vlasic has now scored in three straight games and they were the first three goals of his BU career.
Carriere made his first collegiate start for Vermont and recorded 29 saves.
BU was 0-for-4 on the power play and killed off both of Vermont's two chances with the man advantage.
After two starts, Duplessis sports a 0.50 goals-against average and a .983 save percentage.
BU now stands in first place in the Hockey East Power Index with a 58.10.
