The Boston University women's ice hockey team will begin its quest for a sixth Hockey East title on Sunday when the Terriers travel to Providence to face the Friars in a Hockey East quarterfinal matchup at Schneider Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 1 p.m.

BU is the most successful team in Hockey East Tournament history, winning a record five titles and securing a league-best 25 victories. The Terriers are in search of their 12th Hockey East semifinal appearance. BU has won all five single-elimination quarterfinal games it has played, including a 2015 matchup with the Friars.

The Terriers most recently split a weekend series with No. 6 Boston College on Feb. 19 and 20, earning a 3-2 road win before dropping a 2-0 loss at home. Senior co-captain and Hockey East Second Team All-Star Jesse Compher was named Hockey East Player of the Week for the second consecutive Monday after she tallied three points (2g, 1a), including the game-winning goal, in the Feb.19 triumph over the Eagles. Compher is the Terriers' leading point producer, having collected 11 points thanks to four assists and a team-high seven goals.

Providence has not played since Feb. 12 when it dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at Boston College. The Friars are 1-4-0 in their last five games, having averaged just 1.4 goals per game during that stretch.

Junior Sara Hjalmarsson leads her team with 15 points thanks to a team-best five goals and a team-high 10 assists. Three Friars - junior Caroline Peterson (5g, 6a), sophomore Bailey Burton (4g, 7a) and freshman defender Brooke Becker (2g, 9a) are tied for second on the squad with 11 points apiece. Junior Sandra Abstreiter has started all 17 games this season, posting a 1.94 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage along with three shutouts. In her last five starts, Abstreiter owns a 3.05 goals-against average with an .896 save percentage.
