BOSTON - The No. 10/11 Boston University men's ice hockey team will close out its regular season on Saturday (March 6) when it visits UMass Lowell. Game time at Tsongas Center is set for 3 p.m.
The Terriers (10-3-0) are coming off a home-and-home split with Merrimack as the road team won each contest, capped by BU's 4-2 win in North Andover on Saturday. The River Hawks (7-8-0) most recently swept a weekend series at Vermont by scores of 3-1 and 3-2.
BU is currently in second place in the Hockey East Power Index (HEPI) at 56.34 while the River Hawks are in seventh at 48.15. The top six teams will receive a first-round bye for the Hockey East tournament, which will begin on Wednesday (March 10).
The Terriers are 78-32-11 in 121 all-time meetings with the River Hawks and are undefeated in the past four (2-0-2). The teams were set to meet in the 2020 Hockey East quarterfinals before it was cancelled due to the coronavirus.
Senior David Farrance (5g, 10a) and sophomore Jay O'Brien (7g, 8a) are atop the BU stat sheet with 15 points apiece. Senior captain Logan Cockerill is averaging a point per game with nine points (5g, 4a) in nine games played.
For UMass Lowell, junior Reid Stefanson (4g, 7a) and sophomores Andre Lee (6g, 5a) and Carl Berglund (3g, 8a) are all tied for the team lead in points with 11 each. The balanced attack has seven players with at least four goals and no one with more than six.
Freshman Henry Welsch and junior Owen Savory have split time in goal for the River Hawks with Welsch holding an edge in both goals-against average (2.77 - 3.53) and save percentage (.895 - .829).
