Fratkin Named NWHL Defender of the Year

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Former Boston University women's ice hockey standout Kaleigh Fratkin ('14) was named NWHL Defender of the Year, the league announced on Wednesday night.
This is the second straight year that Fratkin, a 2021 Isobel Cup champion with the Boston Pride, has won this award. She was fantastic in her sixth season in the league, posting an NWHL-best nine assists in seven games during the regular season in Lake Placid. She then added two helpers in the playoffs to finish the campaign with 11 total points in nine appearances en route to winning her first Isobel Cup. Fratkin was also a finalist for the league's Most Valuable Player award.
Fratkin's former Terrier teammate, Shannon Doyle ('15), was runner-up for Defender of the Year after finishing the year with 11 blocked shots and two assists as captain of the Connecticut Whale. Doyle was also a finalist for the Denna Laing Award, which is given to the player who most exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to her sport.
NWHL rookie Sammy Davis was a finalist for NWHL Newcomer of the Year after posting five goals and one assist in nine games with the Pride.
