Women's Ice Hockey Falls at Boston College, 3-0

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston University women's ice hockey team dropped a 3-0 contest to Boston College in the opener of a weekend home-and-home series on Friday evening at Conte Forum.
 
Olivia O'Brien scored two goals for the Eagles, who improved to 4-2-1 overall and 3-0-0 in Hockey East. The Terriers move to 2-3-0 with a 1-2-0 conference mark.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BU killed off an early penalty but the Eagles were able to open the scoring later in the first.
  • O'Brien forced a turnover and then followed up her own rebound, finding the back of the net at 10:18 of the opening period.
  • That what was the first goal allowed by graduate student Andrea Brändli this season after opening with back-to-back shutouts.
  • After neither team scored in the middle period, the Eagles bumped up their lead just 21 seconds into the third when Abby Newhook pounced on a loose puck in the left circle before sneaking a shot past Brändli.
  • O'Brien notched her second goal of the night when a tipped pass found her all alone in the slot at the 8:35 mark of the third to create a three-goal cushion.
  • BU held a 25-20 shot advantage in the final two periods and had four power-play chances in the final 23 minutes of the contest but could not solve BC netminder Abigail Levy.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Brändli, who made 31 saves, had her shutout streak end at 199:48, dating back to Jan. 7 when she was playing for Ohio State.
  • BC held a 34-29 shot advantage for the game as Levy earned the win in goal with a 29-save performance.
  • BU was 0-for-4 on the power play and successfully killed off all three of the Eagles' chances with the player advantage.
  • Junior Julia Shaunessy and BC's Alexie Guay each had a game-high three blocked shots.

  • The teams will meet again for round two on Saturday (Oct. 22).
  • Game time at Walter Brown Arena is set for 3 p.m.
