BEIJING - Former Boston University women's ice hockey standout Marie-Philip Poulin scored two goals, including the eventual game-winner, to lead Canada to a 3-2 victory over the United States in the Olympic gold medal game.
This is Poulin's third Olympic gold medal; she also won gold in 2010 and 2014 as well as silver in 2018. Poulin is the only hockey player – female or male – to score in four Olympic gold medal games. She's totaled seven goals in gold medal games, including three game-winners. Poulin also became the first Terrier to win four Olympic medals. A native of Beauceville, Quebec, Poulin finished the 2022 Olympics with 17 points thanks to six goals and 11 assists, including three points in the gold medal game.
2021 graduate Jesse Compher claimed silver in her Olympic debut with Team USA. She tallied three goals and added an assist for four points while also registering a plus-3 rating entering tonight's contest. Compher's first Olympic point came in the United States' opener against Finland, followed by her first Olympic goal in the next game against the ROC. She then lit the lamp twice in an 8-0 victory over Switzerland.
Compher was the first Terrier women's hockey player to represent the United States in the Olympics and became the fifth different BU women's hockey player to win an Olympic medal, joining Canadian gold medalists Poulin, Jenn Wakefield, Catherine Ward and Tara Watchorn.
