Four Terriers Named Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-Americans
March 31, 2022 | Men's Lacrosse
Junior faceoff specialist Conor Calderone, junior attack Vince D'Alto, senior goalkeeper Matt Garber and junior LSM Roy Meyer were all recognized as Honorable Mention All-Americans. All four Terriers have been instrumental in the Terriers' 7-1 start, including a program-best 4-0 Patriot League record. BU led all other Patriot League schools with four selections.
Calderone, who was named Player of the Week by both Inside Lacrosse and US Lacrosse Magazine this week after he matched the NCAA record with 32 faceoff wins in a 32-for-34 performance against Lafayette on Saturday. He also gathered a program-record 21 ground balls in the win, a total that also matches the conference record. A native of Smithtown, New York, Calderone currently ranks eighth in the nation and second in the Patriot League in overall faceoff percentage with a mark of .615. He is also tied for 11th in the country in ground balls per game at 7.75. In the last four games, Calderone has faced off at 69.1%.
D'Alto also had a record-setting performance on Saturday against Lafayette. He set a program record with 14 points thanks to a career-high seven goals and seven assists in the win over Lafayette. The Northport, New York, native became just the eighth Division I men's lacrosse player to notch at least 14 points and only the third player in 25 years to do so. D'Alto also reached the 100-point milestone on Saturday and now has 111 career points in just 23 career games. A member of the Tewaaraton Watch List, D'Alto is fifth in the nation in points per game (6.0), eighth in the country in assists per game (2.62) and 11th in the NCAA in goals per game (3.38). D'Alto has never been held without a point in his 23-game career and enters this weekend on a 21-game goal scoring streak, the fourth longest streak in the NCAA. He currently leads BU in goals (27), assists (21) and points (48).
Garber is in the midst of an incredible season in the cage. He is third in the nation with a .590 save percentage and is sixth in the NCAA with a 9.16 goals-against average. Garber is also 16th in the nation and third in the Patriot League with an average of 12.75 saves per game. He has made at least 10 saves in all eight contests, including at least 12 in seven of those eight starts. The Westport, Connecticut, native had a four-game stretch earlier this year when he posted an impressive 7.22 goals-against average and a .646 save percentage. Garber's numbers don't tell the whole story, as some of the goals he's allowed have come while he is out of the cage on the 10-man ride.
Meyer is one of the most dynamic LSMs in the country. He enters this weekend ranked second in the nation with an average of 3.12 caused turnovers per game. His 25 total caused turnovers is third overall in the NCAA and one shy of his career high of 26 which he set last year. Meyer has been a big part of the Terriers' success on the ride, as BU ranks fourth in the country in opponent clear percentage, holding foes to a 75.3% success rate in the clearing game. The Long Beach, New York, native has also shown his ability on the offensive end, as he scored his first collegiate goal on March 19 at Holy Cross, fittingly doing so after forcing a turnover on the ride. He also recorded his first collegiate assist against Lafayette, doing so in transition after he caused a turnover in the defensive end. In addition to causing turnovers, Meyer began the week fifth in the nation among defenders with 4.38 ground balls per game.
The No. 14 Terriers will welcome Navy to Nickerson Field for Lax-A-Palooza on Saturday, with opening faceoff scheduled for 12 p.m.
