BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Junior
Conor Calderone, senior
Matt Garber and junior
Roy Meyer each received a weekly award from the Patriot League, the conference announced on Monday.
Calderone collected PL Faceoff Specialist of the Week honors, Garber garnered PL Goalkeeper of the Week recognition and Meyer earned PL Defensive Player of the Week accolades. All three Terriers were instrumental in Saturday's 9-8 win at Lehigh that clinched the program's first-ever regular-season title.
Calderone was outstanding on Saturday, going 13-of-21 at the X against the reigning PL Faceoff Specialist of the Year in Mike Sisselberger, who entered the day ranked second in the nation in faceoff percentage. Calderone went 8-for-10 against Sisselberger in the second quarter to help BU build a lead, and then went 3-for-5 in the final 15 minutes. That included winning the faceoff with 1:04 remaining in regulation that set up the Terriers' game-winning possession. Calderone and the Terrier faceoff unit held the impressive Sisselberger to his lowest-ever single-game faceoff percentage. Now a two-time PL Faceoff Specialist of the Week, Calderone currently ranks ninth in the nation with a .582 faceoff percentage
Garber stood tall throughout Saturday's win to slow down Lehigh's attack. He made 10 saves, including seven in the second half, and was part of a 10-man ride that forced five failed clears. Many of Garber's saves were from point-blank range as he held Lehigh to just eight goals and kept the Mountain Hawks scoreless for a stretch of 18:17 during the second and third quarters to help maintain the Terriers' advantage. Garber, who is now a three-time PL Goalkeeper of the Week, is currently ninth in the nation with a 9.87 goals-against average while his .546 save percentage is 16th in the NCAA.
Meyer once again had a monster day for the Terriers, starting at close defense and also playing the wing on faceoff in another all-around effort for the LSM who has started each of the last three games at close defense. He led BU with five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Meyer also added his third assist of the year when he intercepted a pass during the Terrier ride and quickly dished the ball to
Vince D'Alto for the game's opening goal. Now a four-time PL Defensive Player of the Week, Meyer now has 40 caused turnovers this season and is the nation's leader in caused turnovers per game, averaging 3.08 takeaways during his 13 appearances.
BU will close out the regular season on Friday night when the No. 16/15 Terriers host No. 14/16 Army West Point at Nickerson Field.
