April 27, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team has finalized its leadership group for the 2022-23 season.
Rising senior Nadia Mattivi was selected as captain of the 2022-23 Terriers, with rising juniors Madison Cardaci and Lacey Martin chosen as assistant captains. This is the first year that all three Terriers will wear a letter on their jerseys.
"My staff and I are excited to have Nadia, Lacey and Madison wearing letters and being at the head of our leadership group," head coach Brian Durocher said. "Their work ethic, communication and concern for what is right has been identified by the members of our program. "I look forward to their tireless effort, conviction and willingness to take on the challenges that will be ahead."
Mattivi has shined for both school and country, as she helped Italy win bronze at the IIHF Division I Group B World Championship earlier this month. Mattivi was selected as the tournament's Best Defender after she totaled two goals and one assist for three points in five games. This past season with the Terriers, Mattivi tallied three goals and a career-high nine assists for 12 points and was part of a defense that held opponents to just 2.5 goals per game. She has totaled 28 points (8g, 20a) during her impressive Terrier career.
Cardaci shined in her first full season as a Terrier in 2021-22 after playing just three games as a rookie. She tallied four assists, the first four points of her career, and was a plus-3 in 19 contests. Cardaci was a big reason why BU began the year with a 5-1-2 record in October, as she finished the month as a plus-4.
Martin had a career year for the Terriers last season, scoring five goals and adding seven assists for 12 points in 28 games played. She posted four multi-point efforts, with the Terriers going 3-0-1 in those four contests. Martin also generated an average of 4.5 shots on goal per game over the Terriers' last four tilts.
