BOSTON – Members of the Boston University women's hockey tram participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Sunday, Sept. 25.
"I am very proud of the time and effort that was directed toward the Making Strides Walk," said head coach Brian Durocher. "This activity was coordinated and put in action by the upperclassmen in our program. They bypassed their fundraising goal that will assist this most important cause. Their forward thinking shines a bright light on them, BU Hockey and this institution."
All 25 Terriers on the team walked with cancer survivors and their supporters on the 2- and 5-mile events.
"Each year, we look forward to cheering on and supporting participants during the walk," said senior Haylee Blinkhorn. "This year was special because we were active participants alongside survivors and supporters to help raise awareness for breast cancer. It's always amazing to come together as a community and support a great cause."
The country's oldest one-day breast cancer walk, Making Strides celebrated its 30th edition as thousands walked along the Esplanade to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. The event raises awareness about the importance of breast cancer screenings and aims to ensure all women and men can prevent, find, treat and survive breast cancer.
