BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team will take on Holy Cross in the nightcap of a Frozen Fenway women's doubleheader on Friday evening at Fenway Park. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. after Harvard and Quinnipiac face off at 3:00 p.m. This will be the first-ever outdoor game in the history of the BU women's hockey program.
The Terriers and Crusaders met exactly four weeks ago with BU earning a 3-2 overtime win at Walter Brown Arena. The Turnpike Trophy, an athletic series between the in-state Patriot League rivals that includes all head-to-head matchups throughout the school year, has been reignited and BU leads this year's series by a score of 5-1.
Friday's doubleheader will be televised live on NESN.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers enter the second half in seventh place in the Hockey East standings with 18 points.
- Senior Julia Nearis ranks first on the Terriers in points (15) and goals (7) and is tied with junior Lacey Martin for the team lead in assists with eight.
- Nearis has at least one point in eight of the past 14 games with 12 points (6g, 6a) during the stretch.
- Senior Nadia Mattivi (4g, 5a) and junior Catherine Foulem (3g, 6a) each have nine points this season.
- Graduate student Andrea Brändli ranks sixth in the nation in save percentage (.942) and 16th in goals-against average (1.92).
HISTORY WITH THE CRUSADERS
- BU is 9-1-0 all-time against the Crusaders, including a 5-0-0 record at Walter Brown Arena.
- The Terriers have allowed just one goal in six of their 10 meetings with the Crusaders.
- BU won two of the three meetings last season with the Crusaders earning a 2-0 home victory on Nov. 11, 2022, for their first-ever win over the Terriers.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
- Holy Cross enters Friday contest on a 14-game losing streak.
- The Crusaders have posted wins against Vermont and Union.
- Junior Bryn Saarela has a team-high nine points (4g, 5a) while senior Mary Edmonds has added eight points (5g, 3a).
- Senior Sofia Smithson (3g, 4a) and junior Millie Sirum (2g, 5a) have chipped in seven points apeice.
- Sophomore Emma Min is tied for eighth among Hockey East players in blocked shots with 31.
- Junior Madison Beck has been the team's primary goaltender this season and currently has a 2.72 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage.
