Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Terriers Edged by Holy Cross, 3-2, at Frozen Fenway

BOSTON - Playing in its first-ever outdoor game, the Boston University women's ice hockey team dropped a 3-2 contest to Holy Cross on Friday evening at Fenway Park as part of Frozen Fenway 2023.

Freshman Clara Yuhn and junior Clare O'Leary provided the goals for the Terriers, who move to 7-13-0 overall and 6-10-0 in Hockey East play. Holy Cross held on late to improve to 3-18-1 on the year with a 2-14-0 conference mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Holy Cross never trailed in the contest, opening the scoring less than six minutes into the game before quickly breaking a 1-1 draw after the Terriers equalized in the middle of the second.
  • The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead at the 5:35 mark of the first when a shot by Casey Borgiel from the top of the slot got through traffic.
  • Down a goal after the first, the Terriers got an equalizer when Yuhn followed up a rebound off a shot by freshman Sydney Healey at the left crease with 7:56 left in the second.
  • Holy Cross quickly took the lead once again, however, as Darci Johal intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and skated in before getting a shot past graduate student Andrea Brändli just 90 seconds after Yuhn's goal.
  • Down 2-1 after two, BU got a power-play chance early in the third but was unable to draw even.
  • The Crusaders earned a key insurance goal with 2:53 to play to push their lead to 3-1 as Alexia Moreau cashed in on an odd-player rush.
  • O'Leary made it interesting with an extra-attacker goal with 65 seconds left in regulation as the junior had a perfect tip-in from a right-circle offering by classmate Lacey Martin with 65 seconds to play.
  • Holy Cross held its ground in the final minute and closed out the victory, setting up a rubber match next Friday in Worcester.
GAME NOTES
  • Holy Cross held a 32-26 advantage in shots.
  • Junior Catherine Foulem had a team-high five shots for the Terriers.
  • Brändli made 29 saves in goal for BU.
  • Madison Beck earned the win in goal with a 24-save performance.
  • Senior captain Nadia Mattivi picked up an assist on O'Leary's goal.
