PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Boston University women's ice hockey team dropped a 2-1 contest at Providence on Saturday afternoon at Schneider Arena.

All the scoring took place in the second period, as Providence got on the board first before junior
Maggie Hanzel notched an equalizer on the power play. The Friars scored the game-winner with 5.1 seconds left in the middle period.

BU now stands at 5-6-1 overall and 4-5-0 in Hockey East play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- An evenly played opening period had no scoring and each team had a unsuccessful power-play chance.
- Providence opened the scoring at 13:15 of the second when Megan Quirion converted a wraparound off assists from Rachel Weiss and Audrey Knapp.
- BU had four second-period power plays and used the fourth one to produce an equalizer.
- A rip from junior Maggie Hanzel in the inner edge of the right circle went off the right post and in with 4:55 left in the second to make it a 1-1 game.
- Freshman Neely Nicholson and senior Lacey Martin earned assists on Hanzel's goal.
- The Friars beat the clock to take the lead for good as Grace Shirley beat BU netminder Alexa Matses far post from the right circle with just 5.1 seconds left in the second.
- The Terriers looked to make a late charge but the PC defense turned in a impressive third, allowing just three shots, to hold on for the one-goal win.
GAME NOTES
- PC held a 23-20 shot advantage for the contest.
- BU went 1-of-6 on the power play and kept the Friars scoreless on their three power-play chances.
- Matses made 21 saves in goal for the Terriers while PC's Hope Walinski earned the win with a 19-save performance.
- Martin has assisted on each of BU's past three goals and has a team-best 13 points (7g, 6a) on the year.
UP NEXT
- The Terriers will head south for Thanksgiving weekend to take part in the Smashville Showcase.
- BU will open the tournament against Robert Morris on Friday (Nov. 24) before facing Minnesota State two days later.
