Zabaneh Named Hockey East Player of the Week
March 13, 2023 | Men's Ice Hockey
AMESBURY, Mass. - Junior Nick Zabaneh of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named Hockey East Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Zabaneh stole the show in the Terriers' 7-3 quarterfinal win over Vermont on Saturday at Agganis Arena. He recorded his first collegiate hat trick, including two goals in three minutes during a ferocious first period. Zabaneh's final marker came just 1:23 into the third and only 13 seconds after a Vermont tally made it a 4-2 game. This was Zabaneh's first multi-goal game as a Terrier and his second three-point performance; he notched one goal and two assists in an 8-6 win over Merrimack on Oct. 23, 2021. It was also the Terriers' 13th hat trick in Hockey East playoff history and the first since David Van der Gulik's hat trick in the 2006 semifinals.
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Zabaneh is in the midst of an outstanding junior season. He has scored a career-high eight goals and has collected a career-best 12 points. This is the second straight season in which Zabaneh has reached double digits in points, and he is also a career-best plus-6 this season.
This is the second straight Monday that a Terrier has been named Hockey East Player of the Week, as senior Sam Stevens earned that honor last week.
BU will face off against seventh-seeded Providence on Friday in the Hockey East Semifinals at TD Garden. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m.
