Men's Lacrosse Signs Team IMPACT's Ben Currier
April 10, 2023 | Men's Lacrosse, Community Service
BOSTON – Boston University men's lacrosse head coach Ryan Polley announced a new team member on Monday, signing six-year-old Ben Currier through Team IMPACT.
Ben, who was diagnosed with cancer, was officially introduced at a signing day press conference at the Case Center. He will participate in many activities with the men's lacrosse team including games, practices, and other team events.
Team IMPACT, a national non-profit organization, has developed a unique multiyear program that matches children facing serious illness and disability with college athletic teams across the country. Based on a clinical model, Team IMPACT guides a symbiotic relationship between teams and children focused on socialization, empowerment, and resilience.
"We're so excited to officially welcome Ben and his family to our program," Polley said. "When we look for a new teammate, we want to find someone that embodies our five pillars, and Ben does that, especially when it comes to motor, compete and family. He exemplifies what it means to be a Terrier and in just a short time with our team has already fit right in with all of our players and coaches. This is a great day for BU Men's Lacrosse and we can't wait to see Ben on the sidelines at our practices and games."
"Team IMPACT is excited to see Ben officially join the Terriers," said Danielle Hardee, Regional Director of Programs, Northeast at Team IMPACT. "We are proud to work alongside Boston University, their athletic department, and coaching staff to create lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes between student-athletes and their Team IMPACT teammates."
Boston University has worked with Team IMPACT for the past 11 years, matching 12 children across its men's and women's basketball, men's lacrosse, men's swimming & diving, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's soccer, and field hockey teams.
