GAME 1: BU - 6, Colgate - 5 (8 inn.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers started off with three one-out singles but grounded into a double play in the bottom of the first.
- BU loaded the bases again in the second on back-to-back singles from Williams and Nett with graduate student Nicole Amodio getting hit by a pitch.
- Williams scored on a wild pitch, and Nett reached home on Keleher's RBI grounder for the 2-0 advantage.
- Following senior Caitlin Coker's lead-off walk in the third and a exchanging of runners on two ground outs, Williams hit a deep infield single toward second to bring home freshman Brooke Deppiesse.
- The Raiders started their comeback in the fourth with two runs thanks to a single, walk, error and RBI sac fly.
- Keleher earned her second RBI on a grounder that plated senior Audrey Sellers, who reached via an error in the outfield, but Colgate hit a two-out RBI following BU's own error to keep the deficit at just one run in the top of the fifth.
- Colgate grabbed its first lead following a double and Steph Jacoby's second homer of the series in the sixth for a 5-4 advantage.
- The Terriers responded quickly in the bottom half, as Nett singled to short and took second on Amodio's sac bunt to set up Sellers' one-out RBI single through the left side that plated freshman pinch-runner Aimee Metz.
- Colgate tried to retake the lead in the top of the seventh with a lead-off single, but Amodio helped the Terriers turn a 3-6-4 double play on the Raiders' sac bunt attempt.
- After Avery earned a quick 1-2-3 with a strikeout in the top of the eighth, Amodio put the game away by launching a 1-2 pitch to right center with one out.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders quickly got on the scoreboard with a lead-off walk and two-out RBI single from Jacoby for the 1-0 advantage.
- BU stranded a combined three runners on base through the first two innings, and Colgate had two reach safely in the top of the third before Avery ended the threat on a fly out and also swinging strikeout from Jacoby.
- Keleher started the bottom half off with a double and eventually scored on Coker's RBI grounder.
- Colgate earned back-to-back one-out singles in the fourth, Avery kept the score at 1-1 with a ground out and again a swinging strikeout.
- After Williams loaded the bases in the bottom half on a bunt single, Sellers grabbed the lead on a hard RBI single that forced a diving stop at short.
- Keleher followed with a two-RBI double to set up junior Kayla Roncin's RBI sac fly and then scored on graduate student Emily Gant's RBI double down the right field line to pull ahead, 6-1.
- Avery sealed the victory with her eighth strikeout after Nett threw out a runner trying to reach home from second on a one-out single to right.
- BU will next visit Boston College on Tuesday (April 25) for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
- The Terriers have won the last four meetings with three of them featuring a 3-2 decision, including last year's 11-inning thriller.
