No. 11/13 Terriers Trek to No. 7 Maine for Weekend Series

The No. 11/13 Boston University men's ice hockey team will travel north to face No. 7 Maine in a two-game series that begins Friday night at Alfond Arena. Puck drop on both Friday and Saturday is scheduled for 7 p.m.

In addition to the games being streamed on ESPN+, an audio-only broadcast for both games will be located here. Friday's contest can also be seen on TSN+ in Canada.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • The Terriers are facing a top-20 foe for the fourth straight weekend, having most recently split a home-and-home series with then-No. 17/16 UMass Lowell.
  • BU bounced back from a 5-3 home loss on Friday with a 5-2 road win the next night.
  • All seven goals in Saturday's contest were scored in the second stanza, with BU taking a 2-0 lead just 1:44 into the frame.
  • Junior Quinn Hutson scored two goals while senior Matt Copponi matched his career high with three points on one goal and two assists.
  • Sophomore Jack Harvey recorded two points (1g, 1a) and freshman Cole Hutson also lit the lamp.
  • Sophomore goaltender Max Lacroix made 17 saves in his first official collegiate start.
  • Quinn Hutson became the first Terrier to reach 10 points after his two-goal performance in Lowell; he enters the weekend with three goals and a team-high seven assists.
  • Copponi has notched six points (2g, 4a) over the last six games, including four points in the Terriers' last three tilts.
  • Freshman Cole Eiserman leads all Hockey East rookies and is third nationally among first-year players with six goals.
  • BU enters the weekend with the seventh-best power play in the country, clicking at 27.0%.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The Terriers and Black Bears have played 146 times since first meeting in the 1923-24 season and BU holds a 76-56-14 edge (.576), including a 36-14-6 (.696) advantage since the beginning of the 2005-06 season.
  • BU has won 10 of its last 11 games against Maine, including all three last season and all three during the 2022-23 campaign.
  • The Terriers are 10-2-15 in overtime games against the Black Bears.
  • The Terriers' longest winning streak in the series was 13 games (Jan. 16, 1982 - Feb. 15, 1986) while the Black Bears' longest streak was 11 games (Oct. 31, 1986 - Nov. 10, 1989) and came just after the BU win streak. 

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS

  • Maine got off to a 6-0-1 start before dropping two games at No. 2 Boston College this past weekend.
  • Five of those six wins have come at Alfond Arena, where the Black Bears have won eight straight games dating back to last season. 
  • Senior Harrison Scott leads Hockey East with 15 points thanks to five goals and a league-high 10 assists.
  • Sophomore Charlie Russell (3g, 8a) and junior Brandon Holt (2g, 9a) are tied for fourth in Hockey East with 11 points apiece.
  • Holt, the reigning Hockey East Defender of the Month, paces all league blue liners in points and assists.
  • Sophomore goaltender Albin Boija has started all nine games for Maine this season.
  • He has recorded a .931 save percentage, a 1.56 goals-against average and two shutouts.
