BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Junior
Will Barnes of the Boston University men's lacrosse team has been named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, as announced on Monday.
This is the second such honor for Barnes this season. He was fantastic in the Terriers' 12-10 win at Loyola Maryland on Saturday, matching his career high with 19 saves against the Greyhounds. He made 10 saves in the first half to help BU establish an early 4-0 lead and take a 7-3 advantage into halftime. Barnes continued to play well in the second half, but especially late in the game when he made two crucial stops to keep Loyola from pulling within two until there were only 35 seconds remaining.
Barnes has been outstanding in his first season as the Terriers' starting goalkeeper. He ranks third in the country with an average of 14.57 saves per game and his .573 save percentage is eighth best in the country. Barnes is one of just four goalies to be among the top 10 in both save percentage and saves per game. He has stopped a total of 34 shots over the Terriers last two wins and has made at least 10 saves in six of his seven starts.
BU will return to action on Friday when the Terriers host No. 1 Army West Point at Nickerson Field. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
