BOSTON – After playing the first 23 games of the season on the road, the No. 24 nationally-ranked Boston University softball team is home to host Yale on Tuesday with the doubleheader scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- Ranked 24th by both D1Softball and the NFCA, BU is currently tied with Tennessee for the nation's longest active home win streak at 17 contests after winning the last 17 games played last season, including all three Patriot League tournament games.
- The Terriers enter the home opener with a program-record 20 wins, highlighted by Big 10 victories over Michigan State (2x) and Minnesota.
- BU currently ranks in the top 100 in 12 categories, including 15th in fielding percentage (.978), 16th in shutouts (8) and 35th in runs per game (6.09).
- BU has three batters in the top 125 nationally in hits with senior Kayla Roncin (.417) leading the way at 35 and classmate Lauren Keleher (.442) just behind with 34.
- Keleher leads BU at 25 runs scored and four homers while also tying graduate student Caitlin Coker (.408) at 17 RBIs. Graduate student Lizzy Avery (.400) is the fourth Terrier batting at least .400 on the year.
- Graduate student Allison Boaz (8-1, 1.49 ERA) is holding opponents to .180 batting average with three complete game performances. Sophomore Kasey Ricard (8-2, 2.31 ERA) has totaled 66 strikeouts in 63.2 innings en route to five solo shutouts, including a perfect game at Coastal Carolina. Avery (4-0, 1.62 ERA) has earned 21 strikeouts in 26.0 IP.
- BU is batting .323 and holding opponents to .176 with a 33-11 advantage in doubles and 22-8 lead in stolen bases. The Terriers though only edge opponents in homers, 13-11.
- The Bulldogs are riding a four-game win streak after claiming an 8-6 victory against Fairfield and starting Ivy League play with a sweep against Harvard (2-1, 9-1, 11-6).
- Yale went 2-14 on the road to start the season, earning an 8-7 victory over Loyola-Chicago and 7-2 win against Fairfield while dropping one-run decisions to Iona (4-3), Oakland (5-4), Coastal Carolina (1-0) and Fullerton (1-0).
- Yale has four Bulldogs batting over .300 with Katie Donahey leading the way at .3571 with seven runs scored and eight RBIs.
- Willa Ferrer (.315) owns a team-high two homers alongside seven RBIs, while Lauren Perren (.308) leads Yale with 10 RBIs.
- In 13 appearances in the circle, Emma Taylor (5-5, 2.42 ERA) has only allowed more than two runs in a game three times, totaling 45 strikeouts in 63.2 innings with opponents hitting just .248. The Bulldogs' other three pitchers all own ERAs over 5.70 with a combined 20 strikeouts in 70.1 IP.
- Overall, Yale is batting .262 and holding opponents to .312 with opponents owning 42-25 advantage in doubles.
