Dartmouth Edges No. 21/23 Softball, 5-4
April 2, 2024 | Softball
HANOVER, N.H. – Despite nearly doubling Dartmouth in hits, the No. 21/23 nationally-ranked Boston University softball team fell late on the road in a 5-4 heartbreaker Tuesday afternoon.
The Big Green (7-10) scored all five of their runs with two outs off 3-2 pitches, including four in the first and the go-ahead solo shot in the sixth, to snap the Terriers' (27-4) eight-game win streak. BU finished with an 11-6 advantage in hits but stranded eight on base and had two more runners caught stealing for its first loss of the year when scoring at least three runs in a game.
Senior Lauren Keleher led the offense batting a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while graduate student Allison Boaz earned her second homer of the season to help BU rally to tie the game in the sixth. Sophomore Kasey Ricard (13-3) suffered the loss with three runs off five hits after replacing Boaz in the circle with the bases loaded during the bottom of the first inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Keleher and senior Kayla Roncin started the game with back-to-back singles and eventually took advantage of a throwing error during Roncin's attempt to draw a rundown for the 1-0 lead.
- Graduate student Lizzy Avery followed with a one-out walk two put two on, but the Big Green earned back-to-back strikeouts looking on generous outside pitches.
- In the bottom half, Boaz started off with a fly out and ground out but then loaded the bases with two walks and a single.
- The Big Green followed with a two-RBI double and two-RBI single to grab the 4-1 lead.
- In the top of the second, senior Lauren Nett earned a one-out single and scored on Keleher's two-out RBI double to cut the deficit in half.
- After Boaz led off the fourth with a solo homer, Sellers delivered a two-out double, but reliever Jensin Hall followed a hit-by-pitch with a swinging strikeout to end the threat.
- Dartmouth tried to extend the lead in the fifth on a lead-off single and two-out single before coming up empty handed on a swinging strikeout.
- The Terriers tied the game in the sixth, as sophomore Brooke Deppiesse singled to left, took second on Nett's single and scored on Keleher's two-out RBI single up the middle.
- With two outs in the bottom half, Wilson battled back from a 1-2 count to blast a 3-2 pitch to right for what proved to be the game winner.
- The Terriers earned a one-out walk and took second on a wild pitch but struck out and fouled out for the loss.
- BU will visit Colgate for a three-game series on Saturday-Sunday (April 6-7).
- First pitch is set for 12 p.m. both days.
- The Terriers have won the last 23 meetings, including a pair of one-run decisions at home last year (2-1, 6-5).
