Former Boston University men's ice hockey standout Evan Rodrigues will skate for the Florida Panthers in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, which begins on Saturday in Florida.
Rodrigues, who starred for the Terriers from 2011-15, has been an impact player for the Panthers in his first season with the franchise. In 80 regular-season games, Rodrigues totaled 39 points on 12 goals and a career-high 27 assists. He was also a career-best plus-26 on the season. He continued his strong play into the playoffs, recording three goals and five assists for eight points in 17 postseason contests. That includes the primary assist on the opening goal in Florida's series-clinching win over the New York Rangers on June 1 in the Eastern Conference Final.
In 146 games with the Terriers, Rodrigues totaled 42 goals and 79 assists for 121 points. He was part of the 2014-15 squad that won the Beanpot and claimed both the Hockey East regular-season and tournament titles. Rodrigues has totaled 81 goals and 126 assists for 207 points in 465 NHL games.
If Florida defeats Edmonton in the best-of-seven series, Rodrigues will become the 12th Terrier to hoist the Cup as a player or coach; Jack Eichel accomplished that feat last year with Vegas. Rodrigues is not the only Terrier in the Panthers organization, as Paul Fenton is a senior advisor to Florida general manager Bill Zito.
