GAME 1: ECU - 4, #22/RV BU - 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After delivering a team-high 13 homers in 2024, Emma Jackson grabbed the lead for good with a solo shot to center against Johnson.
- The Pirates then singled to left against Nell, but she earned a ground out followed by a strikeout and freshman Addie Lucier's strong throw to second for the successful tag on a stolen base attempt.
- ECU added a second run in the fourth with the help of a walk, mishandled sacrifice bunt and RBI single up the middle.
- Junior Brooke Deppiesse recorded BU's first hit in the third and sophomore Livia Christopher added the second with two outs in the fifth.
- The Pirates doubled their lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs off three hits, including a double, and an errant outfield throw.
- Doherty delivered BU's first homer of the season toward right center on a one-out 0-1 pitch in the seventh.
- Junior Olivia DeLong singled through the right side on the next pitch, but for the second consecutive game, the Terriers ended the contest by grounding into a double play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lucier started the game with a lead-off single and later touched home on Doherty's two-out blast to right on a full-count pitch for the 2-0 lead.
- Senior Tyesha Williams started the second on a single and eventually scored following sophomore Kyomi Apalit's sac bunt, Lucier's fly out to center and then a passed ball.
- The Highlanders earned their first single in the third and advanced the runner to second on a passed ball, but Ricarded ended the threat with a ground out and foul out to left.
- BU added two runs off a pair of hits, as freshman Biz Baglieri drew a lead-off walk and scored on junior Aimee Metz's RBI triple that was immediately followed by Williams' RBI single.
- Baglieri extended the lead in the fifth to 7-0 with a two-RBI single set up by a walk and hit-by-pitch.
- The Highlanders avoided the shutout with a lead-off homer in the fifth and started the seventh with back-to-back singles.
- Ricard sealed the victory on a ground out, strikeout and fly out to right.
- BU will conclude the three-day event on Sunday (Feb. 16) against UMBC with first pitch set for 9 a.m.
- The game was originally scheduled for 10 a.m. but was moved up due to expected inclement weather.
- The Terriers won the first meeting back on Friday, 9-2.
