BOSTON – The No. 12 Boston University women's ice hockey team (21-11-2, 18-7-2 HE) dropped a 3-1 outcome to UConn (21-11-2, 19-6-2 HE) on Saturday afternoon at Walter Brown Arena in the regular season finale.

UConn took a 1-0 lead in the first frame, to which BU responded with an equalizer 1:13 before the second ended. The third frame was toughly contested on both ends of the ice and BU pulled senior
Callie Shanahan from net with 3:00 to go. The Huskies added an empty net goal through the final minutes to take the 3-1 win.

Riley Walsh picked up an assist. Shanahan made 18 saves in net while UConn goaltender Tia Chan made 33.

The Terriers will be the No. 2 seed in the Hockey East Tournament and will host a quarterfinal game on Saturday (March 1) at 4 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU was called for body checking 2:38 into the game.
- With 12 seconds remaining on the penalty, UConn went to the box for body checking.
- BU did not find the back of the net on its first power play of the day.
- Moments after UConn came back to full strength, it lit the lamp to take a 1-0 lead at 6:44.
- The Terriers were called again for body checking at the 14:00 mark and successfully killed the penalty off.
- UConn went to the box for hooking with 3:44 to play but kept the Terriers from scoring on the power play.
- At the 16:39 mark in the second, UConn went to the box for tripping and BU did not score on the power play.
- The Terriers then had a successful penalty kill on a cross checking call at 8:39.
- BU went back to the box, this time for hooking, with 7:53 to play in the second.
- UConn was called for roughing with 1:15 left on BU's penalty kill, resulting in 4-on-4 play.
- The Terriers then went on the power play but did not score.
- At 18:47, a rebounded shot from Walsh was collected by Welcke, who sent the puck in at the near post. Â
- Just 2:46 into the third, BU went to the box for interference and was once again successful on the penalty kill.
- The 1-1 tie held until the 5:33 mark when UConn scored a go-ahead goal.
- The Huskies served a hooking penalty at 8:53 and kept BU from scoring.
- With 3:00 to play, BU pulled Shanahan from between the posts.
- UConn scored on the empty net at 17:45 to extend its lead to 3-1.
- BU kept Shanahan out of the net but the Terriers did not make any advances with their extra skater.
- The Terriers ended the game with a two-second power play but ultimately fell to UConn, 3-1.

- The Terriers outshot the Huskies 34 to 21.
- BU was 0-for-6 on the power play while UConn was 0-for-5.
- BU blocked six shots with freshman Tessa Demain and graduate student Tamara Giaquinto each blocking two.

- UConn is the only Hockey East team to win and/or sweep a series against BU this season.
