No. 14/13 Terriers Welcome Vermont for Hockey East Quarterfinal Matchup

BOSTON – The No. 14/13 Boston University women's ice hockey team (21-11-2, 18-7-2 HE), the No. 2 seed in the Hockey East tournament, hosts eighth-seeded Vermont (9-24-2, 7-18-2 HE) in the quarterfinals on Saturday (March 1) at Walter Brown Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
Students of Hockey East institutions will receive free admission to the game. Fans can purchase tickets for Saturday's game here.
 
HOCKEY EAST TOURNAMENT NOTES
  • The Terriers are 25-16 overall in the Hockey East tournament with a 14-8 quarterfinal record, a 6-5 semifinal record and a 5-1 finals record.
  • BU is 7-2 in the postseason when it is the No. 2 seed.
  • The Terriers have won the Hockey East title five times, the most recent being in 2015.
  • BU has made 13 quarterfinal appearances, the last of which came in 2022.
  • The last time the Terriers won in the quarterfinal round was in 2019, when they won the series in straight games (5-1, 3-1) at Walter Brown Arena against New Hampshire as the No. 3 seed.
  • BU is 14-8 all-time in quarterfinal games and is 3-2 in quarterfinal games when it is the No. 2 seed.
 
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SEASON
  • BU finished the regular season 21-11-2, 18-7-2 HE with a 9-4-2 home record and 11-6-0 away record and is the No. 2 seed headed into the postseason.
  • BU was the first team in Hockey East this year to reach 20 wins on the season.
  • It also marked the first time since 2019-20 that the Terriers reached the 20-win threshold.
  • BU finished second in the Hockey East standings despite being picked to finish sixth in the preseason coaches poll.
  • The Terriers were also the first in the league to reach 50 points this season, finishing with 57.
 
HOCKEY EAST AWARDS
  • Tamara Giaquinto was named the Hockey East Army ROTC Defender of the Year.
  • She is the third Terrier in program history and the first since 2012 to win the award.
  • The graduate student set career highs in goals (8), points (17), shots (90) and power play goals (6) in the regular season. She also recorded 47 blocks and nine assists.
  • Giaquinto was named a First-Team All-Star by the league while Sydney Healey was named a Third-Team All-Star.
  • Healey leads BU in points (21) and goals (13) and has at least one point against eight out of nine Hockey East foes this season.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  •  BU played its final two games of the regular season in a home-and-home series against UConn.
  • The Terriers dropped both contests, losing 4-1 at UConn on Friday and 3-1 at home on Saturday.
  • Graduate student Lindsay Bochna scored on Friday with assists from senior Christina Vote and junior Clara Yuhn while junior Luisa Welcke scored on Saturday and was assisted by fellow junior Riley Walsh.
  • BU is No. 14 in the USCHO poll and No. 13 in the USA Hockey poll.
