
Watchorn Named New England Coach of the Year; Giaquinto, Healey Earn All-Star Recognition

BOSTON – Boston University women's ice hockey head coach Tara Watchorn was chosen as the Division I Women's Coach of the Year, the New England Hockey Writers Association announced Wednesday. In addition, graduate student Tamara Giaquinto and junior Sydney Healey were named New England Division I All-Stars.
Watchorn guided the program to its sixth Hockey East title and seventh NCAA tournament berth in the 2024-25 season. BU finished the year with a 24-12-2 (18-7-2 HE) record, marking the ninth time it has completed a season with 20 or more wins. Watchorn also became the first to win the Joe Bertagna Trophy as both a player and a coach, having won Hockey East titles as a player in 2010 and 2012. She led BU to become the first team with 50 points in the league standing this year, finishing with 57 overall. Watchorn piloted BU to a second-place finish in the Hockey East regular season standings after being picked to finish sixth in the league's preseason coaches' poll.
Giaquinto collects her second all-star award of the season after previously being named a Hockey East First Team All-Star. The Hockey East Defender of the Year tallied 18 points off nine goals and nine assists and led the league in power play goals with six. She set career highs in goals, points, power-play goals and shots this season. The graduate student blocked 57 shots this season which led the Terriers.
Healey also receives her second all-star award of the season as she was named a Third Team All-Star by Hockey East. She led the Terriers in points with 23 off 15 goals and eight assists for career highs in each category. Healey lifted the Terriers to their sixth Hockey East title with an overtime game-winning goal. The junior blocked 15 shots and had three goals on the power play this season.
