June 24, 2025

OTTAWA – Recent graduates Callie Shanahan and Tamara Giaquinto of the Boston University women's ice hockey team were selected by the New York Sirens and the Montreal Victoire, respectively, in the PWHL draft on Tuesday night. They became the first Terriers drafted in the PWHL since the league began in 2023.

Shanahan was selected 28th overall while Giaquinto went 44th overall. Shanahan's pick came in the fourth round and Giaquinto's came in the sixth. Both were the fourth pick in their respective rounds.

Shanahan is the second Terrier goaltender to play for the Sirens after Corinne Schroeder ('21) who was in New York for the first two seasons of the league. Shanahan made 69 career appearances between the posts, ending her time at BU with a .918 career save percentage and six shoutouts. Her senior season was her best, with a 1.81 GAA, three shutouts and a .924 save percentage.

She had a season high 40 saves at Minnesota to start the season and notably made 25 saves in the Hockey East Championship against Northeastern. She was named to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team, was a Hockey East Goaltender of the Month (Oct.) and a two-time Hockey East Goaltender of the Week in 2024-25.

Giaquinto captained the Terrier squad last season and led BU in power-play goals with six and blocks with 57. Her 18 on the year came off nine goals and nine assists, boasting the most points out of all BU defenders this season. The Toronto, Ont., native set career highs in goals, points, power-play goals and blocks after doing so in every one of those categories in her senior year.

She was named the Hockey East Defender of the Year and a New England All-Star by the New England Hockey Writers Association. She received Hockey East All-Tournament Team honors as a graduate student and was named a Hockey East First Team All-Star. Giaquinto was named the Hockey East Defender of the Month in October and the Defender of the Week in March following her lamplighter in the Hockey East Championship against Northeastern.
