September 16, 2025 | Men's Ice Hockey
AMESBURY, Mass. - The Boston University men's ice hockey team has been picked to win the Hockey East regular-season title by the league's coaches, as announced on Tuesday.
BU earned seven of a possible 10 first-place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team) and totaled 105 points, well ahead of second-place Providence, which received 91 points thanks to three first-place votes. UConn was third with 90 points while Maine secured the other first-place vote and was fourth with 87 points. Boston College (85 points), UMass (64), UMass Lowell (53), Northeastern (53), Merrimack (33), New Hampshire (31) and Vermont (23) rounded out the poll.
The Terriers return 12 letter winners from last year's team that advanced to the national title game, including First Team All-American and reigning National Rookie of the Year Cole Hutson, 2025 first-round draft pick Sascha Boumedienne and 2024 first-round draft pick Cole Eiserman, who led all NCAA rookies with 25 goals last season. Among the 14 newcomers is reigning NCHC Rookie of the Year (and National Rookie of the Year runner-up) Sacha Boisvert, who transferred from North Dakota along with senior Owen McLaughlin. Twelve freshmen will also join the Terriers, including five players selected in this summer's NHL Draft.
BU will open the 2025-26 season on Oct. 4 when the Terriers welcome LIU to Agganis Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
