Yegorov Shuts Out UMass, No. 19 Terriers Earn 1-0 Win
January 9, 2026 | Men's Ice Hockey
AMHERST, Mass. — Sophomore Mikhail Yegorov backstopped the No. 19 Boston University men's ice hockey team to a 1-0 win over UMass on Friday night at the Mullins Center.
The Terriers (10-8-1, 7-5-0 HE) received an 18-save shutout from Yegorov and the lone goal of the game from junior Jack Harvey in the second period to oust the Minutemen (9-10-0, 2-7-0 HE) for BU's fifth win in its past six games.
Harvey's goal was the only strike all night, as both teams rang the post once apiece during the contest. The Terriers played with a lead for the final 32:11 and held off the Minutemen after they pulled their goaltender with 1:55 to play in the game.
Assisting on Harvey's goal were junior Aiden Celebrini and sophomore Sacha Boisvert. In a game with solid goaltending on both sides, UMass' Michael Hrabal stopped 29 of BU's 30 shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- At 11:47 in the first period, freshman Tynan Lawrence picked a UMass pass in the defensive zone and found sophomore Cole Eiserman streaking down the center of the ice for a breakaway, but Eiserman's effort was denied by UMass netminder Michael Hrabal.
- Sophomore Nick Roukounakis rung the post with an shot at 13:50, which proved to be the closest either team would get to a tally in the first.
- Freshman Ryder Ritchie was whistled for an elbowing minor at 16:57 in the first, but the Terriers had no trouble killing the penalty.
- The Terriers had multiple chances at the start of the second, including an Eiserman shot on a virtually empty net that went wayward.
- BU wouldn't get on the board until 7:49 in the second, as Harvey tucked home a rebound off a well-placed shot from Celebrini.
- The Terriers went on the power play at 10:54 and generated three shots, but none found twine.
- Both goaltenders remained steady the rest of the second, and BU went into the final frame up 1-0.
- With 14:01 remaining in the third, UMass' Owen Mehlenbacher ripped a shot from the point that got past Yegorov, but instead of the goal horn sounding, all the Mullins Center heard was the loud "thunk" of the pipe and BU kept its 1-0 lead.
- The Minutemen pulled Hrabal with 1:55 to play, and the Terriers attempted a flurry of long-range shots but the score held at 1-0.
- Yegorov's shutout is the second of his career and the first this season.
- His first shutout came on Feb. 22, 2025 in a 3-0 win against Providence.
- This was the Terriers' first 1-0 victory since the 2022 Beanpot title game, when Vinny Duplessis stopped all 19 Northeastern shots he faced.
- It's the 21st time in program history that BU has earned a 1-0 victory.
- In each of the past five seasons, BU has won its first Hockey East game back from holiday break, dating back to 2022.
- BU outshot UMass 30-18.
- The Terriers won 27-of-41 (87.5%) faceoffs and freshman Jonathan Morello won 7-of-8 (87.5%).
- BU is now 11-1-2 over its past 14 games against UMass and the Terriers own the series lead, 74-15-9.
- The Terriers will turn around and host UMass on Saturday (Jan. 10) at Agganis Arena.
- Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and TSN+.
