
Six Terriers to Compete at 2026 Winter Olympics

BOSTON – Six BU women's ice hockey players will participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina this year. Of the six, four are making their Olympic debut. BU is representing four different countries on the women's side in Canada, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.

Andrea Brändli
Making her third trip to the Olympics, Andrea Brändli will represent Switzerland in between the posts. She made her Olympic debut in 2018 at Pyeongchang and saw action on the ice in the 2022 games in Beijing. The Swiss native played seven games in the 2022 games and helped her team to two wins. Brändlu has played 20 games with Frölunda HC in the SDHL this season, boasting a 1.54 GAA and a .944 save percentage.
Nadia Mattivi
Former Terrier Captain and 2023 graduate Nadia Mattivi makes her Olympic debut with Italy. She has competed on multiple Team Italy rosters at the world championships and is in her second season with Luleå HF in the SDHL. In 2024-25, the defender amassed 27 points of three goals and 24 assists in 34 games. This year, she already has 21 points off five goals and 16 assists. As a Terrier, she made 141 appearances and collected 63 points, serving as a captain in her last two seasons.
Marie-Philip Poulin
BU hall-of-famer Marie-Philip Poulin is making her fifth trip to the Olympics with Team Canada, the defending gold medalists from the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Poulin has medaled each time she has competed at the Olympics, winning gold in 2010, 2014 and 2022. In 2018, she and Team Canada earned the silver medal. On the professional level, Poulin captains the Montreal Victoire in the PWHL and has 14 points this season off seven goals and seven assists.
Kayla Tutino
A 2016 graduate from BU, Kayla Tutino makes her Olympic debut with host country Italy. Tutino plays professionally in Italy and is currently with Real Torino. She has five points of two goals and three assists this season. In the 2024-25 season, she played with Italy at the World Championships, accruing five points off a goal and four assists and was +6 in the tournament. She has played professionally in Italy since the 2024-25 season, playing with Neumarkt/Egna that season and totaling 29 points.
Lilli Welcke
Senior Lilli Welcke will compete with Germany in her first-ever Olympic games. She has nine points off five goals and four assists this season, playing in 24 games. She also leads the Terriers in faceoff wins with 271. Welcke helped Germany qualify for the Olympics last season, scoring two goals and registering one assist in three games.
Luisa Welcke
Senior Luisa Welcke will also compete for Germany in her Olympic debut. In the qualifying tournament last season, Welcke notched three points off a goal and two assists. Her goal was the game-winner that helped Germany qualify for the Olympics. In the current season at BU, she has 10 points off four goals and six assists.
