
Softball to Visit Yale for Weekend Games Against the Bulldogs and New Haven

BOSTON – Competing in the Northeast for the first time, the Boston University softball team will head to Yale for a pair of weekend games against both the Bulldogs and the University of New Haven.
The Terriers will start off the competition against Yale on Saturday (March 7) with a 12:45 p.m. first pitch and then face the Chargers for the first time ever at 3 p.m. BU will face the two programs a second time on Sunday (March 8) starting at 10:30 a.m. with the Bulldogs and then a rematch against New Haven set for 12:45 p.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is looking to carry momentum from last week's performance at the Duke Invitational in which the Terriers claimed wins against three Power 4 programs in then-No. 20 Duke, Northwestern and Ohio State.
- The Terriers are 1-4 in true road games this season with the lone win occurring at Duke (9-8, 10 inn.) back on Feb. 25. following losses to then-No. 16 South Carolina (2x), Charlotte and UCF.
- Four Terriers are currently batting over .300 with junior Kyomi Apalit leading the way at .347, just ahead of senior Brooke Deppiesse who owns a team-high 15 runs scored.
- Both freshman Irys Kline (.340) and senior Megan Coyle (.298) have both earned four doubles apiece while combining for 27 RBIs. Junior Kylie Doherty (.254) leads BU with 16 RBIs thanks in part to six homers.
- In the circle, senior Kasey Ricard (6-5, 5.67 ERA) leads BU with 58 strikeouts earned over 66.2 innings of work with shutout wins against Cal State Bakersfield and Maryland that led to Patriot League Pitcher of the Week honors.
- Classmate Haley Ganino (2-1, 1 SV, 5.47 ERA) earned her first career Pitcher of the Week award on Monday thanks to pitching a combined 5.2 scoreless innings Duke and Northwestern for a win and save.
- As a team, BU is batting .275 and holding opponents to .316 with a 33-4 deficit in stolen bases.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Yale, 2-8 (Saturday, 12:45 p.m. | Sunday, 10:30 a.m.)
- The Bulldogs will open the weekend and home schedule against New Haven at 10:30 a.m. before hosting the Terriers on campus for the first time since 1995.
- Yale went 15-5 at home last season and 4-22 away with two victories against both Holy Cross and Central Connecticut.
- Batting .244 while holding opponents to .392, the Bulldogs have earned so far a 2-0 win against Boston College and 7-3 victory against College of Charleston with 5-4 loss to DePaul and pair of two-run defeats to Georgia State.
- Libby Peoples leads Yale batting .458 with a homer and three RBIs, while Ella Gandolfo (.304) owns a team-high four runs scored.
- Emma Taylor (2-2, 3.18 ERA) has totaled 17 strikeouts in 33.0 innings of work with a complete-game shutout performance against BC. Five other pitchers have made at least two appearances with four of them earning one start apiece.
- BU leads the all-time series, 16-8, having posted a combined 5-1 record at home over the last three seasons with the Bulldogs splitting the 2023 doubleheader.
New Haven, 0-5 (Saturday, 3 p.m. | Sunday, 12:45 p.m.)
- The Chargers are competing at the NCAA Division I level after making the jump from Division II's Northeast 10 conference to the Northeast Conference over the summer .
- UNH started its season a week ago in Colorado with a 3-1 loss to Lafayette and two losses apiece against North Dakota State and Gardner Webb by a combined score of 39-5.
- Elyse Genaway leads the Chargers batting .400 with a double, RBI and five walks for a .700 on-base percentage. Both Jessica Petit (.364 avg.) and Carson Schakel (.300 avg.) have combined for seven hits with Schakel owning a team-high two RBIs.
- Katie Rhodes earned NEC Pitcher of the Week honors after holding opponents to one run over 5.0 innings of work. Skylar Griffin (0-3, 10.96 ERA) and Cecelia Imbimbo (0-2, 7.30 ERA) have combined for nine strikeouts in 15.1 innings.
- Batting .191 and holding opponents to .378 with a 16-2 deficit in doubles, UNH will face BU for the first time in program history.
LOOKING AHEAD
- BU will open the home slate with a doubleheader against Quinnipiac on Wednesday (March 11) starting at 12:30 p.m.
- The Terriers lead the all-time series, 5-2, with all seven contests taking place in Florida between 2011-2017.
