Steve Moreland joined the Boston University men's lacrosse program in August 2022 as a volunteer assistant coach and completed his second season on the staff in 2024, working primarily with the team's faceoff specialists.

Under Moreland's guidance, Matthew Fritz enjoyed a career year in 2024, posting a .534 win percentage and collecting a team-high 74 ground balls in addition to scoring three goals.

Moreland comes to Comm. Ave. after a successful 2022 season as an assistant at Tufts. He helped guide the Jumbos to a 19-3 record, a NESCAC title and a trip to the national semifinals, where they lost to eventual NCAA champion RIT. Moreland coached the top-scoring offense in the country, as Tufts averaged 20.27 goals per game, and he also mentored First Team All-American Mac Bredahl, who led the country with 6.82 points per game. Four members of Moreland’s offense earned All-America accolades in 2022.

Prior to his stint at Tufts, Moreland the head coach at Governor's Academy, where the team was co-champion of the ISL in his first season at the helm (2018). He was previously head coach at Phillips Andover, his alma mater.

A native of North Andover, Mass., Moreland graduated from UMass in 1986. He captained that year’s squad and helped them advance to the NCAA quarterfinals and finished 10th in the USILA national poll.
