Hockey Team Remains Unbeaten in League Play

BOSTON (November 5) -- Five different players scored goals and freshman goalie Rick DiPietro (Winthrop, Mass) had 29 saves en route to his second straight win as the Terrier hockey team skated past Merrimack, 5-2, in Hockey East action on Friday night (November 5th).
The victory kept B.U. undefeated in league play as the team is now 2-0, while it is 4-3 overall.
I was very pleased with our effort tonight, said Terrier head coach Jack Parker, who needs just five more wins to reach the 600-victory plateau for his career. We played very well especially considering this was a road game.
We played very well through center ice, continued the coach. And, we showed a lot of poise when they were forechecking us.
The Terriers also played well on special teams, converting on 2-of-4 power play chances, while they killed off 5-of-6 chances by the Warriors.
I think our penalty killing unit played great, offered the coach. As far as our power play was concerned, it was good to see us score a couple of goals, although I don't think we were particularly sharp.
Scoring on the power play were sophomore left wing Jack Baker (South Boston, Mass.), whose goal at 14:22 of the first period lifted the Terriers' lead to 2-0.
Earlier, at 10:12 of the period, sophomore defenseman Chris Dyment (Reading, Mass.) staked the Terriers to a 1-0 lead, and that's the way it remained until Baker's goal.
Senior right wing Tommi Degerman (Helsinki, Finland) also scored while the Terriers were skating a man up, while junior center Carl Corazzini (Framingham, Mass.) scored a shorthanded goal.
However, the biggest goal of the night was scored by senior left wing Chris Heron (Mississauga, ONT).
At the time, it was just seconds into the second period and the Terriers were clinging to a 2-1 lead.
After Dyment and Baker gave B.U. a 2-0 first-period lead, Merrimack's Anthony Aquino pulled his team to within a goal just 23 seconds into the second period.
Just 34 seconds later, Heron scored for the Terriers to give them their two-goal cushion again.
That was a huge goal for us,' said Parker. In fact, it was the biggest goal of the night.
The guys set me very well for that goal, said Heron, who also had an assist and was selected the game's first star. I really like this rink. It reminds me a lot of the junior rinks I used to play on at home.
DiPietro continued to shine in net for the Terriers as he improved his record to 3-1-0 with a 2.50 goals against average and a .903 save percentage.
He played extremely well in net again for us, said Parker. We got great goaltending tonight and we were very opportunistic.
