Hockey Team Bows To Denver, 5-2
November 25, 2000 | Men's Ice Hockey
The Terrier hockey team, hoping that a change of scenery would change its fortunes, lost to host University of Denver, 5-2, on Friday (Nov. 24).
The Terriers, who are now 2-7-1 overall, had lost four straight games on the East Coast and had hoped they would feel a Rocky Mountain high over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Unfortunately, that was not the case, as B.U. continued to struggle scoring goals.
The offense managed just a first-period power play goal and a third-period even strength goal, as Denver countered with two goals each in the first and second periods and one in the third.
B.U.'s goal scorers were sophomore John Sabo (Harding Township, NJ), who scored at 14:43 of the first period, and senior Carl Corazzini (Framingham), who tallied at 4:28 of the third period.
Sabo's goal, which was assisted by junior Dan Cavanaugh (Springfield) and sophomore Freddy Meyer (Sanbornville, NH), cut the Terriers' deficit to 2-1.
However, the Pioneers went on to score three unanswered goals to lead 4-1 before Corazzini's goal. Senior Keith Emery (Belmont) and junior Pat Aufiero (Winchester) assisted on the goal.
The Terriers dominated play, outshooting the Pioneers, 44-24, but Denver goalie Wade Dubielewicz, who was voted the game's first star, managed to turn aside 42 of the shots.
B.U. will try to head home from Colorado with at least one win when it travels to Colorado College on Saturday night (November 25th)
