Terrier Hockey Team Opens Series vs. Merrimack
November 3, 2000 | Men's Ice Hockey
BOSTON UNIVERSITY at Merrimack College November 3, 2000 * 7 pm * Volpe Complex * North Andover, MA
TAPP TO START IN NET: Senior Jason Tapp (Kelowna, BC) will start in net tonight for the Terriers. He has played every minute of each of the Terriers' first four games this year. Prior to this season, only once in his collegiate career had he started as many as two straight games, and that came last year against Ferris State (12/27) and Minnesota-Duluth (12/27) in the Silverado Shootout....As a freshman, he appeared in just six games as he backed up Michel Larocque in net. Then, last year, he played in 15 games as he alternated in goal with Rick DiPietro through the first half of the season. In the second half of the year, DiPietro saw most of the action.
TAPP VS. THE WARRIORS: This will be Tapp's third career appearance against Merrimack, and he is 1-1-0 with an .864 save percentage and a 3.04 GAA. As a freshman, he lost to them 4-2 on January 10, 1999. He had 20 saves and played 58:23. Then, last year, he had 18 saves in a 4-2 win on November 6, 1999 at Walter Brown Arena.
TAPP VS. HOCKEY EAST: Tapp came into this season with a two-year record in league play is 5-2-1 with a 3.02 GAA and an .892 save percentage. Two years ago, he appeared in just three Hockey East games and was 0-1-0 with a 4.36 GAA and an .828 save percentage. His only decision was 4-2 loss to Merrimack on January 10, 1999...Last year, he appeared in seven league games and was 5-1-1 with a 2.81 GAA and a .902 save percentage...This year, he is 0-0-1 as he had 28 saves in last Saturday night's 4-4 overtime tie against Providence...Thus, coming into tonight's game, his overall record in Hockey East is 5-2-2 with a 3.12 GAA and an .890 save percentage.
EMERY OUT INDEFINITELY: Senior defenseman Keith Emery (Belmont, MA) suffered a sprained left knee in the opening minute of last Saturday night's 4-4 overtime tie against Providence.
MULLEN, PRIEM IN; GREELEY OUT: Other lineup changes tonight include freshman Mark Mullen (Dorchester) and sophomore Ryan Priem (Minnetonka, MN) in the lineup, while freshman Steve Greeley (Scituate) will not dress. Mullen, who played against Vermont but did not dress for the RPI or Providence games, will play right wing on the fourth line along with senior center Scott Perry (Dorchester) and freshman left wing Kenny Magowan (Kelowna, BC). Mullen takes Greeley's place on that line. Priem, who alternated between forward and defense last year, will take Emery's spot on defense. Priem played in the season opener against RPI, but did not dress against Vermont or Providence.
CHANGES ON DEFENSE: With Emery out of the lineup, the Terriers have made two changes in their defensive pairings for tonight. Junior Chris Dyment (Reading), who skated with senior Colin Sheen (Hopkinton, NH) the first three games, will skate with junior Pat Aufiero (Winchester), while Sheen will be paired with Priem. Sophomores Mike Bussoli (Calgary, ALTA) and John Cronin (Duxbury) will remain together tonight for the fourth straight game.
MEYER COULD BE BACK TOMORROW NIGHT: Sophomore defenseman Freddy Meyer (Sanbornville, NH) could play his first game of the season tomorrow night. Meyer has missed the Terriers' first three games this year as he is recovering from back surgery performed this past summer. Last season, Meyer joined the Terrier team in December from the U.S. National Program in Ann Arbor, MI. He played in the team's final 25 games, scored a goal and added 11 assists. He was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team.
CORAZZINI NAMED TO HONOR ROLL: Senior captain Carl Corazzini (Framingham) was named to the Hockey East Honor Roll this week. He was honored for scoring a shorthanded goal and adding an assist on junior Jack Baker's (South Boston) power play goal in last Saturday night's 4-4 overtime tie at Providence.
COLLINS AMONG CONFERENCE LEADERS: Sophomore wing Brian Collins (Shrewsbury) comes into this weekend's action tied for first in Hockey East in points per game with 2.00. In the first three games, he has 2-4--6. BC's Krys Kolanos, with 12 points in six games and Providence College's Devin Rask, with eight points in four games, also have 2.00 ppg entering this weekend...A year ago, Collins was the Terriers' top-scoring freshman with 13-11--24 in 42 games and was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team...However, he is ahead of last year's pace when he scored his sixth point in his eighth game.
BAKER ONLY OTHER POINT A GAMER: In addition to Collins, the other Terrier with a point a game this year is Jack Baker. He had an assist in the season opener against RPI, scored the game-winner in the 3-1 win over Vermont, and had a goal against Providence. In his three games, he has 2-1--3.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIKE: Terrier sophomore defenseman Mike Bussoli will turn 22 on Monday.
TWO VS. NINE: In the pre-season poll of the nine Hockey East coaches, the Terriers were picked to finish second, while the Warriors were ninth. A year ago, B.U., which was picked to finish fifth in the pre-season poll, posted a 15-3-6 record as it won its sixth regular-season title in the past seven years.

TERRIERS IN THIS WEEK'S NATIONAL POLLS: The Terriers have slipped one spot in one poll and remained the same in the other poll as a result of their tie against Providence last Saturday. In the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine rankings, the Terriers remained in 11th place for the second straight week. They finished with 97 points, 29 better than 12th place University of Nebraska-Omaha and 14 points behind St. Cloud, which is 10th this week...In the U.S. College Hockey Online poll, the Terriers, who were ninth last week, slipped a spot to 10th. They finished with 192 points, 73 points behind ninth-place Maine and 17 points better than 11th place St. Cloud...In both cases, Michigan is number one but by the slimmest of margins. In the USA Today poll, they are one point better than Wisconsin, while there are just three points separating them in the USCHOL poll...You want to know how tough a league Hockey East is? There are four top-10 teams in this week's USHOL poll--New Hampshire, third; BC, fourth; Maine, ninth; and the Terriers, 10th. In the USA Today, BC is third, UNH is fourth, Maine is ninth, and the Terriers are 11th.
