BOSTON, MA-John Curry, who stopped 25-of-26 shots he faced en route to defeating the University of Maine, 2-1, on Sunday, Oct. 31, has been named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week.
The sophomore from Shorewood, MN gave up just a first-period goal to the Black Bears, while he had 10 saves each in the first and second periods and five in the third.
For Curry, who played in just one game last year as he came off the bench for the final 5:10 against Niagara, the Maine game was his third straight start and third straight win. He had 24 saves in the 4-1 win over Vermont for his first collegiate victory on Oct. 16, and then followed it up with a 22-save performance in the 3-2 win over Providence for his first Hockey East victory on Oct. 22.
For the season, Curry is 3-0-0 with a 1.14 GAA and a .954 save percentage.
This marks the second straight week a Terrier player has received a weekly award from the league. Last week, freshman Peter MacArthur (Clifton Park, NY) was the Superskills Rookie of the Week. MacArthur was honored for his goal and assist in the Terriers' 3-2 win over Providence.
