MacArthur, Curry Named Hockey East October Award Winners

BOSTON, MA-Center Peter MacArthur and goalie John Curry, who have helped spearhead the Terrier hockey team to three straight wins, have been named the Rookie and Goaltender of the Month for October, respectively, by Hockey East.
After starting the season with losses to Miami University and the University of Michigan in the Lefty McFadden Tournament in Dayton, OH, the Terriers have reeled off three straight wins. Two of the victories have come against Hockey East teams, as B.U. closed the month with an overall record of 3-2-0 and a conference mark of 2-0-0.
MacArthur has centered the Terriers' third line in all five games and leads the team in both goals with four and points with six. He has at least one goal in four of the six games and points in four of the five. He had a season-high two goals in the Terriers' 7-2 loss to Michigan and a goal and an assist in the 3-2 win over Providence for his two multiple-point games.
MacArthur's performance against Providence earned him the Superskills Rookie of the Week. Now, he is the Superskills Rookie of the Month.
A sophomore, Curry played just 5 minutes, 10 seconds last year, as he came off the bench in the closing minutes of the Niagara game on December 13, 2003.
When this season began, it was expected he would battle for playing time, but, when the Terriers played their opener against Miami, junior Stephan Siwiec (Calgary, ALTA) was in the starting lineup. Siwiec went the distance and was charged with the 5-1 loss.
The next evening, when B.U. faced off against Michigan, it was freshman Karson Gillespie (Mankota, SASK) who got the starting nod. He played the first 29:17 and allowed seven goals before he gave way to Curry.
Curry played the final 30:43 and stopped all 12 shots.
"Those who play well will be rewarded with playing time," said Terrier head coach Jack Parker.
The end result was that Curry earned his first collegiate start against Vermont on Oct. 16. He responded with a 24-save performance in the 4-1 victory to end the Terriers' two-game losing streak. He then had 22 saves in the 3-2 win over Providence on Oct. 22, and most recently, he had 25 saves in the 2-1 win over Maine last Sunday, Oct. 31.
His performance earned him this week's Hockey East Goaltender of the Week, while his 3-0-0 record along with a 1.14 GAA and .954 save percentage for October has earned him the ITECH Goaltender of the Month award.
"The two certainly deserve these awards based on how they played during the month," said Parker.
"We knew Peter was a goal scorer but it's been a pleasant surprise that he is off to such a great start," said Parker.
"John has grabbed the bull by the horns and made the most of his opportunity," the coach concluded.
