BOSTON - Boston University senior forward Rashad Bell (Queens, N.Y.) helped the men's basketball Terriers to a pair of road wins last week, including a 20-point, 11-rebound showing in the Terriers' 65-52 America East-opening win at the University of New Hampshire on Dec. 4. He earned America East Player of the Week honors for his efforts.
B.U. (4-1, 1-0 America East) is in the midst of a six-game road trip and have won the first four of those games. In addition to the 13-point win at UNH, the Terriers defeated the Atlantic-10's University of Rhode Island Rams, 73-68, on Nov. 30.
Bell's 20-point, 11-rebound game at UNH was the Terriers' first double-double of the season. He tied his career high with three assists and added two blocked shots in the game. Against URI, he scored 11 points, making all seven of his free throw attempts.
Bell has improved his free throw shooting dramatically during the Terriers' first five games. After hitting only 8-of-12 from the line in his first three games, Bell has improved to make 15-of-16 in the last two contests. As a result, his free throw shooting percentage has jumped to 63.9 percent.
Bell has scored in double-figures in eight straight games, including the last three games last year. It's the second-longest current streak in America East, behind Taylor Coppenrath's 29-game streak for the University of Vermont.
Bell enters the Terriers' Dec. 7 game at Harvard with 993 points and is just seven points shy of becoming the 27th Terrier to reach 1,000 career points.
The America East Player of the Week award is Bell's fourth during his B.U. career. He earned the award three times during a sophomore campaign in 2002-03 that saw him earn America East All-Conference First Team honors.
Among America East leaders, Bell is tied with sophomore teammate Etienne Brower (West Hempstead, N.Y.) with 2.20 blocked shots per game. He is eighth in scoring (15.8 ppg) and tied for third in rebounding (7.0 rpg).
B.U. continues its road trip with games at Harvard on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. and at Boston College on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
