December 6, 2004 | Men's Ice Hockey
Junior Brad Zancanaro and freshman Peter MacArthur have been named Hockey East's Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, while sophomore John Curry was named to the Honor Roll for the pivotal roles they played in the Terrier hockey team's sweep of Boston College and the University of Massachusetts over the weekend.
On Friday, December 3, the Terriers upset second-ranked Boston College, 3-2, in what was head coach Jack Parker's 700th career victory. Then, the following evening, the Terriers journeyed to the University of Massachusetts where they skated to a 7-1 win.
The two victories improved the Terriers' overall record to 9-6-0, but, more importantly, they cemented their hold on first place in the Hockey East standings. They are 8-1-0 for 16 points, three points ahead of runnerup University of Maine, which sits with a 6-3-1 league record for 13 points. Overall, the Black Bears are 10-6-2.
Zancanaro (Trenton, MI) was the offensive standout for the weekend with 3-1-4 and scored both game-winners. In the win over Boston College, he scored the winner with just 7:05 to play in regulation. Then, in the victory over the Minutemen, he came back with 2-1-3 and a plus-3. With his weekend's totals, Zancanaro brought his season's statistics to 4-6-10.
MacArthur (Clifton, Park, NY) finished the weekend with 3-0-3. Two of his three goals where shorthanded including one against Boston College which opened the scoring at 16:12 of the first period. Then, against Massachusetts, he had two goals one of which was shorthanded and one was even strength. In addition to his two goals, he had a plus-3. For the season, MacArthur leads the team in both goals (9) and points (16), while he is tied for third in assists (7).
Curry (Shorewood, MN) went the distance in goal in both games and had a 1.51 GAA and .943 save percentage to go along with the two wins. In the BC win, he finished with 23 saves, 14 of which came in the first period. Then, at UMass, he had 27 saves, 12 of which came in the opening period.
While this is the first time this year Hockey East has recognized Zancanaro, both Curry and MacArthur are no strangers to being honored by the league.
