RESULTS
BOSTON - Sophomore Abbey Sadowski (Voluntown, CT) raced to two individual titles and ran the anchor of the winning 4x800 relay team while leading Boston University to a second-place finish at the 2005 America East Indoor Track and Field Championships at the TTC on Saturday, Feb. 19.
With 134 points, B.U. trailed only Northeastern, which won its third consecutive indoor title with 173.5 points.
Sadowski opened the day with a first-place finish in the mile run, pulling ahead of Albany's Alyssa Lotmore in the final lap a winning with a time of 4:52.23.
In the 800-meters, Sadowski cruised to a victory in a time of 2:11.56.
With a team of freshman Theresa Kett (Crailsham, Germany), junior Erica Shea (Georgetown, MA), freshman Jessica Cickay (Upper Dublin, PA), and Sadowski, the Terriers won the 4x800 relay in 9:12.35.
The Terriers had three of the top four finishers in the 3,000-meter run as sophomore Marisa Ryan (Farmington, CT) won the race in an America East record time of 9:44.84. Freshman Christine Laakso (Fitchburg, MA) followed in second in a time of 9:47.37 while classmate Andrea Walkonen (Jaffrey, NH) placed fourth in 9:47.59.
On Friday's Day 1 competition, Walkonen and Laakso finished 1-2 in the 5,000-meter run. Walkonen won the individual title with a NCAA qualifying time of 16:42.34. Laakso followed in second in a personal-best time of 16:55.47,
Sophomore Alaina Ramsey (Rayway, NJ) earned a third-place finish in the weight throw with a personal-best distance of 49' 8 ¼".
The Terriers picked up a relay win as B.U. captured the Distance Medley Relay in a time of 11:49.91. Ryan led off the relay, followed by sophomore Apryl Holder (Boston, MA), freshman Theresa Kett (Crailshaim, Germany), and Sadowski running the anchor.
B.U. will host the 2005 New England Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, Feb. 25, and Saturday, Feb. 26.
