GAME TWO - Boston University 8, Binghamton 0 (5 inn.)

VESTAL, N.Y. - Senior shortstop Jamie Haas (Houston, Texas) went 4-for-6 with four runs and two RBI, leading Boston University to a doubleheader sweep at Binghamton on Sunday, April 17. The Terriers took game one, 7-5, and won game two, 8-0, in five innings.

B.U. improves to 12-16-1 overall and 4-4 in America East. Binghamton falls to 8-17 and 2-8. The Bearcats committed three errors in each game, leading to nine of the Terriers' 15 runs being unearned.

GAME ONE - Boston University 7, Binghamton 5 Binghamton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a three-run home run by Jessica Dima. The Terriers came back with a five-run fourth inning. Haas had the big blow of the inning with a two-out, two-run double that tied the game at 3-3. She then advanced to third on a wild pitch and later stole home to give the Terriers the lead for good.

In the top of the fifth inning, senior left fielder DeKenya Williams (San Diego, Calif.) drilled a two-run homer to extend the lead to 7-3. The Bearcats cut the lead to 7-5 in the bottom of the sixth but the comeback effort came up short.

Freshman pitcher Jenna Grapensteter (Bothell, Wash.) came on in relief of Terrier starter Brittany Detwiler (Souderton, Pa.) and retired four of the last six Binghamton batters to earn her first career save. Detwiler (5-6) gave up only four hits and no earned runs.

GAME TWO - Boston University 8, Binghamton 0 (5 inn.) B.U. wasted no time in the second game, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Haas led off the inning with an infield single and later scored on a single by sophomore center fielder Chiya Louie (Seattle, Wash.). Senior catcher Jenni Shields (Simi Valley, Calif.) hit a two-run double to make the score 4-0.

Haas was an offensive factor in the second inning as well, getting on board with a single and scoring the second of her three runs in the game on an error by Binghamton pitcher Katie Hansen. Louie continued the inning with a two-run triple and Williams scored on a groundout one inning later to give the Terriers the run-away 8-0 win.

Sophomore pitcher Ashlee Freeman (Northridge, Calif.) allowed Binghamton only two hits, one each in the third and fourth innings, and was never threatened in earning the win to improve her record to 4-8.

Haas finished the game 3-for-3 to improve her team-leading batting average to .416.

B.U. next plays at Boston College on Wednesday, April 20 at 4 p.m.
