BOSTON – The Boston University men’s ice hockey team today announced its 2006-07 schedule, highlighted once again by a full 27-game Hockey East schedule, in addition to appearances in the Ledyard National Bank and Beanpot Tournaments, along with contests against Rensselaer, Harvard and Yale of the ECACHL.
Overall, the schedule includes 34 regular-season games and one exhibition match, while featuring 17 home games at the year-and-a-half-old Jack Parker Rink. In addition, the Terriers will likely take on three of the 2006 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four participants (North Dakota is a possible opponent in the Ledyard National Bank Tournament, while Boston College and Maine are definite in the schedule).
The Terriers, who won both the Hockey East Regular Season and Tournament Championships last year, will open both the regular season and their non-conference schedule at Rensselaer on Oct. 14, before traveling to Merrimack on Oct. 21 for the start of league play. The Scarlet and White will then bring it back to Agganis Arena for the home opener versus UMass Lowell on Oct. 27 in the first game of a home-and-home series.
The other eight Hockey East opponents scheduled to play in Boston are Maine (Nov. 4), Providence (Nov. 17 and Dec. 8), Massachusetts (Nov. 28), Boston College (Dec. 2 and Jan. 26), Merrimack (Jan. 20) New Hampshire (Feb. 17), Vermont (Feb. 23-24) and Northeastern (March 3), while UMass Lowell will return to the building on Feb. 2.
Another highlight of the season will be a pair of home games surrounding Thanksgiving versus two of the ECACHL’s finest in Harvard and Yale, neither of which has ever played in BU’s new arena. The Crimson will make the couple-mile commute from Cambridge on Tuesday, Nov. 21, while Yale will come up for the first game between the two teams in three years on Saturday, Nov. 25.
The first of two season tournaments for the Terriers will come just after Christmas, in the Ledyard National Bank Tournament, hosted in Hanover, N.H., by Dartmouth. Although pairings have yet to be decided, BU will face two of the other participants (St. Lawrence, Dartmouth and North Dakota) on Dec. 28-29.
Finally, as the long-standing staple of the regular season for BU, the Terriers will vie for their 28th Beanpot title beginning on Monday, Feb. 5, versus Northeastern, with the championship and consolation games set for the following Monday, Feb. 12.
