BOSTON—Freshman Corey Lowe (Newton, Mass.) averaged 15.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game to lead the men's basketball team (6-10, 3-1 America East) to three wins last week and earn his third America East Rookie of the Week distinction. He shares the conference honors with Vermont's Joe Trapani.
Lowe went a combined 14-for-16 (.875) from the free throw line. He also averaged 2.0 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per game.
The freshman had a game-high 13 points and seven boards in the 53-29 victory over New Hampshire on Jan. 13. Lowe tallied another game-best 17 points at Binghamton in a 61-49 win, and in the 65-63 win over Maine, his lay-up with 17:31 remaining in the game gave BU the lead for good, 41-39. He finished that contest with a team-high 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Lowe is second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.9 points per game. He averages 2.6 assists per game, tied for the team lead. He has started all 16 games and led the Terriers in scoring 11 times, including four 20-plus point efforts.
He earned his first league Rookie of the Week recognition after turning in a career-high 28 points against Manhattan on Nov. 25 and tying the school record of seven made 3-pointers in a game in the win over the Jaspers. Lowe received his second America East Rookie of the Week recognition for his 16-point, seven-rebound performance against the University of Massachusetts on Dec. 6. The freshman scored four of BU’s last eight points during an 8-0 run that got the Terriers within two of the Minutemen in the final 4:33 of the game.
BU is riding a three-game win streak heading into Thursday’s meeting with the Stony Brook Seawolves on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.
