BOSTON - Looking for its second-straight win of the season, the Boston University men's basketball team (1-0) travels down to Washington, D.C. to face the Colonials on Wednesday, Nov. 14 in the Smith Athletic Center. The Terriers are coming off a season-opening victory over St. Bonaventure on Nov. 9.

The Colonials (1-0) have a 14-1 lead in the all-time series and come into Wednesday's contest having won the last eight games. The series dates back to the 1958-59 season. GW won the first six games before BU recorded its only victory - Feb. 19, 1979, when the Terriers pulled out an 87-76 win at home.

Rob Diggs and Maureece Rice are GW's key returnees from a team that went 23-9 overall and 11-5 in the A-10 in 2007. The Colonials won the Atlantic 10 championship last season before falling to Vanderbilt in the first round of the NCAA tournament. For the year Rice averaged a team-best 15.8 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per game. Diggs was third on the team with 10.5 ppg and 5.0 rpg. A key loss for the Colonials was Carl Elliott to graduation. He was the team's second-leading scorer (12.9 ppg). Elliott posted 25 points against the Terriers last year on 7-for-11 shooting in 70-57 GW win at Agganis Arena on Nov. 10, 2006.

In GW's season-opener, Diggs scored 21 points and Wynton Witherspoon added 15 points and 11 rebounds as George Washington opened the game on a 15-0 run and rolled to a 77-62 win over Mount St. Mary's on Nov. 10. The Colonials raced out to the early lead and were up by as many as 25 points in the first half on the strength of their pressure defense and long-range shooting. They held the Mountaineers scoreless for over eight minutes to start the game while hitting 7-of-11 3-point field goals before halftime.

BU's sophomore guards Corey Lowe (Newton, Mass.) and Carlos Strong (Portland, Maine) and red-shirt junior guard/forward Matt Wolff (Walpole, Mass.) are emerging as go-to players for the Terriers. Lowe scored a career- and game-high 28 points in BU's season-opening win over St. Bonaventure on Nov. 9. Strong chipped in 11 points and a career- and game-best seven rebounds. Wolff dished out a career-high seven assists and tallied five steals. Freshman John Holland, reigning America East Rookie of the Week, announced his presence last week, turning in 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting including a three and a dunk as part of an early seven-point BU swing in the first half.

Lowe led all players with 28 points as the Terriers defeated St. Bonaventure 68-57 in the Terriers' last game. The Bonnies went up early in the first half, scoring their first 15 points on 3-pointers. SBU had as much as a six-point lead, 21-15, with 9:15 remaining in the first half on a jumper by Hillary Haley, but Lowe kick-started a 15-2 BU run with a trey at 6:45 that gave the Terriers a 32-23 lead four minutes later. BU never lost the advantage after that.

The Terriers host Saint Joseph's on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Agganis Arena at 7 p.m. in the nightcap of a double header with the women's team.
