BOSTON – Freshman Rachel Hebert has earned America East Player of the Week honors after helping the Boston University softball team to a crucial three-game sweep of UMBC over the weekend. The first baseman earned the accolade after batting .667 with seven RBI in the series, including both game-winning hits in Saturday's doubleheader.
On Saturday, Hebert hit the game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning in the opening game and followed up with a two-hit performance in the second game. In the second game of the twinbill, she hit a bases-loaded triple down the right line that gave BU the early 7-0 lead and after UMBC had knotted the score at seven, followed with a sacrifice fly to left field driving in the game winner. She added an insurance run with an RBI single up the middle in the sixth inning. On Sunday, Hebert doubled down the left line for her fourth hit of the weekend.
The Humble, Texas, native is now the conference leader in runs batted in (35), second in home runs (9), fifth in total bases (70) and fourth in slugging percentage (.654).
It is the first Player of the Week honor Hebert has received and second award overall for the first baseman. On March 4, she earned the Rookie of the Week distinction. BU has garnered at least one conference honor in 7-out-of-9 weeks this season and has had seven different players earn an award. In addition, it is the fourth consecutive week the Terriers have received one of the three conference accolades.
