The Boston University softball team dropped an 8-0 decision to No. 16 Houston in its second game of the 2008 Marriott Houston Classic. BU now stands at 1-1 on the young season. Junior Brooke Hudson and classmate Melissa Dubay each recorded hits for the Terriers, while sophomore pitcher Megan Currier was charged with the loss. BU will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 23 with games against Texas State and Kansas at the tourney in Houston, Texas.
Houston scored two in the third inning on a two-run homer and added a third in the fourth inning on an RBI double. The Cougars plated five in the sixth inning a two-run home run, a sacrifice fly out and fielding error.
Hudson double to left center in the bottom of the third and Dubay recorded the Terriers' other hit in the sixth with a single.
Sophomore Megan Currier was charged with the loss in 5.1 innings of work. She struck out one batter and allowed seven hits and seven earned runs. Freshman Kelley Engman came in the fifth inning to pitch the final two innings, allowing two hits and one run.
BU will face Texas State at noon on Saturday before squaring off with Kansas at 4:00 p.m.
